Alinta Energy

Alinta Energy

Alinta Energy is a significant Australian energy generator, retailer, wholesaler, investor, and developer. We are the preferred electricity and gas provider for more than 1.1 million homes and businesses Australia-wide.

We have an owned and contracted generation portfolio of approximately 3,000 MW across Australia and New Zealand – including gas, wind, solar and coal. Our determination to make energy better has put us at the forefront of the transition to renewables. We developed Western Australia’s biggest producer of renewable energy (the Yandin Wind Farm), the first rid-forming big battery in Australia (Newman, Pilbara region Western Australia) and the biggest remote solar installation (Chichester, Pilbara region Western Australia) and we have a development pipeline of renewables and storage projects, including on and offshore wind, pumped hydro and other
projects totalling more than $8 billion.

We’re proud of our local customer service centres in Perth, Western Australia and Morwell in Victoria, and we employ around 1,000 people across the country.

Portland Aluminium

Portland Aluminium Smelter

The Portland Aluminium Smelter has been operating since 1986 and is one of four remaining aluminium smelters in Australia. It produces 19 per cent of Australia's total aluminium and is among Victoria's top exporters.

As the largest employer in the region, Portland Aluminium employs about 470 direct employees — the majority of whom live in the local community — and 160 contractors.

The smelter is the largest consumer of electricity in Victoria representing approximately 10 per cent of state load. It also plays an important role in protecting the grid from unexpected interruptions with its ability to rapidly shed load when the power grid is under duress.

The smelter is a joint venture between Alcoa of Australia Limited (55 per cent), CITIC Nominees Pty Ltd (22.5 per cent) and Marubeni Aluminium Australia Pty Limited (22.5 per cent). Alcoa of Australia Limited is responsible for managing smelter operations.
