Project Overview

The project could potentially supply up to 10 per cent of Victoria’s current electricity needs.

Offshore wind turbines

Turbines in the ocean can use the strong and consistent offshore wind conditions to provide a reliable and alternative energy source to onshore renewables.

The project involves the installation of offshore wind turbines off the coastline, which will transmit electricity through a series of underwater cables to an offshore substation. From there the connection will extend to the mainland to an onshore substation.

Why the name Spinifex?

Coastal spinifex grass plays an important role in the local environment, helping to stabilise sand dunes. We envision the project having a similar positive environmental impact.
